Smart Vacation Access

This clever automation saves time, protects access, and keeps security intact.

Picture this: An executive travels overseas. It’s a vacation, but they still want to check email or handle a few quick tasks. When they try to log in, they’re blocked. The system detects a sign-in attempt from another country and denies access.

That’s conditional access doing what it’s supposed to do. Conditional access protects your environment from unauthorized logins. But now the boss is irritated, and someone back home needs to respond quickly, override the policy, and restore access. It’s stressful, time-consuming, and easy to get wrong.

One of our consultants developed a solution to prevent this kind of disruption.

📽️ Watch the short video below for an overview of how the automation works:

The tool automatically adjusts Microsoft 365 access based on scheduled travel, so employees can work securely from abroad without triggering geo-blocking policies.

Here’s how the smart vacation access automation works:

  • The traveler completes a vacation request form.
  • A manager approves the request.
  • During the approved travel window, the user is temporarily excluded from country-specific conditional access rules.
  • When the vacation ends, the system removes the exception and security settings return to normal.
  • No manual intervention. No IT tickets. No forgotten policy resets.

This automation is built entirely with Microsoft 365 tools, including SharePoint and Entra ID. There’s no extra software to manage, and everything happens behind the scenes.
